چکیده
In this paper we study the hydrostatic limit of Navier-Stokes-alpha model in a very thin strip domain. We derive some Prandtl-type equations for and prove global well-posedness system small initial conditions an appropriate analytic function space.

The Navier-Stokes-alpha model of fluid turbulence
We review the properties of the nonlinearly dispersive Navier-Stokesalpha (NS−α) model of incompressible fluid turbulence – also called the viscous Camassa-Holm equations in the literature. We first re-derive the NS−α model by filtering the velocity of the fluid loop in Kelvin’s circulation theorem for the Navier-Stokes equations. Then we show that this filtering causes the wavenumber spectrum ...
متن کاملA Finite Element Approximation of the Navier-Stokes-Alpha Model
We consider the Navier-Stokes-Alpha model as an approximation of turbulent flows under realistic, non-periodic, boundary conditions. We derive that the variational formulation of Navier-Stokes-Alpha model under non-periodic boundary conditions, and prove that it has a unique weak solution. Next we consider finite element approximation of the model. We give semi discretization of the model and p...
متن کاملDirect Numerical Simulations of the Navier-Stokes Alpha Model
We explore the utility of the recently proposed alpha equations in providing a subgrid model for fluid turbulence. Our principal results are comparisons of direct numerical simulations of fluid turbulence using several values of the parameter alpha, including the limiting case where the Navier-Stokes equations are recovered. Our studies show that the large scale features, including statistics a...
متن کاملComparing Hydrostatic and Nonhydrostatic Navier-stokes Models of Internal Waves
Internal waves occur at a variety of temporal and spatial scales and are mechanisms by which momentum, energy, nutrients and biota are transported in lakes, estuaries and coastal oceans. In stratified systems, accurate prediction of water quality effects requires modeling internal wave evolution and propagation. Lake, estuary, and coastal ocean models typically apply the hydrostatic approximati...
متن کاملNavier-Stokes-alpha model: LES equations with nonlinear dispersion
We present a framework for discussing LES equations with nonlinear dispersion. In this framework, we discuss the properties of the nonlinearly dispersive Navier-Stokes-alpha (NS−α) model of incompressible fluid turbulence — also called the viscous CamassaHolm equations in the literature — in comparison with the corresponding properties of large eddy simulation (LES) equations obtained via the a...
